Very good hotel for the price. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Room was business hotel standard. Window could be opened. Located directly at the main shopping district. Public bath that was also accessible to the public at certain hours. As for the current construction work: the men’s bath was fully functional and open despite of one smallish hot pool.

The location was very good - close to great shopping and lots of eating places, a short tram ride from the train station. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our rooms were spotless - I had a room to myself, which was quite spacious, but my sons had a twin room and that was a little more compact. We had a great breakfast for only about JPY800, with a fabulous view across Matsuyama. There were free toiletries/amenities in reception. The onsen was also fabulous before bed to ensure a great night's sleep. Would definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.
Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

Where there isn’t the sea, the city is surrounded by mountains. With the hill that has the castle on top, it creates a nice atmosphere. The onsen town (Dogo onsen) is where I mostly stayed. It was fun to see people walking around in the street in their yukata.
Like in many Japanese cities, the tram is cute and all, but it’s very inefficient. Moreover, you can only pay with cash or their local IC card. You cannot use standard IC cards like Pasmo, Suica, etc.
We ate at our wonderful hotel (Kowakuen) so I cannot speak about the restaurants.

Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit.
Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit. The must visits are of course the mountain top castle named Matsuyama Castle and also so many others like the Okaido shopping street and the Bansuino old French-style house. There are also delicious foods to try such as the Taimeshi which was delicious as well as the amazingly delicious oranges (mikaan) around the city. There are so many shops selling mikaan and mikaan juice that if you like fruits, you will love this city.

Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring.
Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring. The big onsen that they go on about is a tourist trap so I would not waste your time. I was told Spring and Fall were the best times to go as the Summer is hot and humid. The people seem OK but don’t really want to be bothered by foreigners.

I visited Matsuyama as part of the 88 temple Henro pilgrimage and so took in several temples, shrines and the Matsuyama Castle which is the most impressive castle I have visited in Japan thus far. The hot springs are also excellent and plenty of nightlife options.
Excellent location to access the main sightseeing areas, very convenient to the public transportation as well. The room was spacious enough, check in and out were super quick, and they were kind enough to hold our luggage after checkout.
The room had a really cute view, there was no step up into the bathroom which I loved, and the beds were pretty comfy. And check out is 11 which is quite rare in Japan so that was a nice touch as well.
I don't have a single bad word to say about this place. The staff, Den, Nao, KG - these guys are like family. So accommodating, friendly, and hilarious. Den and Nao speak great English and the brewery downstairs is fabulous. The guesthouse is also very well situated, close to great Japanese restaurants and cafes. If you are planning a trip to Matsuyama, you must visit here. I will definitely be back.
Picturesque location, facing the moat that partly surrounds the castle hill. Recommend going for a night time walk and taking some photos of the hotel, moat and catle at night. Relatively accessible (15-min walk) from hotel to Matsuyama JR Station. Fully satisfied with good value, budget priced hotel.
I like that this hotel chain has free breakfast.
The staff was also very friendly and tried to communicate with hands and feet. Apparently nobody speaks English. I speak a bit Japanese though so it wasn’t a problem. They tried to communicate as best as they could and that’s what matters.
The hotel is an excellent location, super close to the Matsuyama Station (about 15-16 min walk). The hotel staff were kind and helpful and the room was really spacious and comfortable. The pillows were super comfortable and the WiFi was quite fast as well.
I booked a smoking room but all through the night the person in the other room was smoking. The whole room stunk of smoke all night. When I told the staff in fluent Japanese they were rude talking back in a loud voice and interrupting me all the time.
Authentic Japanese onsen hotel by the sea. We appreciated both our private bath and large public bath with several pools indoors and outdoors. Location is further away from busy Matsuyama city and we enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere of Hojo area.
A very convenient location (directly beside the main Dogo onsen building). The hotel had the basic necessities and travel soap, shampoo, etc. that you can bring to the hot spring (2/3 of the hot springs don't provide this in the shower area).
A comfortable business hotel with the expected, clean, quiet, comfortable room. It's conveniently located on the tramline from T51 and Dogo Onsen. Has good restaurants close and the Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum is just around the corner.
Closest hotel to jr Matsuyama station. Used coin laundry 2nd floor. Breakfast typical hotel breakfast but only 950yen if prepay day before. Convenient as streetcar right in front of hotel.
Loved everything about this hotel. Right next to the Dogo Onsen, the most helpful and friendly staff. Matsuyama is a joy and this hotel was a delight and fantastic value for money
Great location near the station and the stop for buses to the airport, the tourist port and the hot springs.
Very smart and clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff.
Good, clean hotel with nice new rooms and within a short walk of Matsuyama castle. There is a bus and tram stop right outside which makes it very easy to get about.
This is meant to be 2 star hotel, as reflected in the price, but everything about it was 4 star! Wonderful value for money, and right in the heart of Matsuyama.
good location close to Matsuyama Castle and Okaido Mall. Breakfast was ok but they did not refill the food that went out, so we missed out on a lot of dishes.
