Location is great. Rooms and facilities are clean. Common area has enough space if guesthouse is not at full capacity. Since I'm missing neutral category I will writhe it here - staff is mixed bag, one was extra nice and communicative, while the other was like he was annoyed that we were guests.

We received a code and could get into the room any time. Kitchen was well equipped. Room was big and quiet. We were lucky to see the aurora in this city, but we needed to drive shortly outside of the city.

Beautiful views of the sea, especially sunrise. Great mountain views. It was uncharacteristically cold and windy so no hiking but trails exist. Easy access to the national park with black beaches, lighthouses, lava tubes and volcano views. Nothing open in winter, you'll have to drive to Arnarstapi (5 minutes) or 30 min around the peninsula for any food or fuel.NeilUnited States - 10Scored 10

Great location to explore the peninsula and lots of walks from Hellnar along the coast. Eating options are quite limited but the food at our hotel was excellent so we were happy to eat there each night.

Dinner and breakfast both great. Also recommend the Frista Food Truck in nearby Arnarstapi for amazing fish and chips and quesadillas. Good recommendations from reception for spots to stop at on the drive back to Reykjavik, including seals on the rocks at Ytri Tunga. We also found a lovely little forest to walk through further on at Hofsstaðaskógur.

It's also walking distance to the "hotel" in Hellnar, and they have a very good restaurant. Hellnar was a perfect base for us to do some day trips around the peninsula. It's also close to some of the popular attractions.

All of the major sites on the peninsula are a short drive from the hotel. Parking was easy. Dinner was exceptional! We felt like we were eating at a 5 star restaurant.
