Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

You need time to understand and see this city - it is not "open" from the first sight - you have to blend in and find out it is great, very lively and very interesting city. Perfect for many things and activities.

Friendly and not expensive (like Rome). People don't try and con you as a tourist. Only issue is that alomost no one speaks English outside of a few folks, but Google translate can help with that :) Defo take the ferry to Porto Fino and stop at the 2 places on the way.

Genova was a beautiful place to visit with heaps of things to do and visit. We ate at local restaurants within walking distance with everything quite accessible. Only problem was that we were unfortunate with the weather and it was quite cold.

Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly run down. From the entrance, the lobby, the elevators, the corridors and the rooms it is a total disaster. You should stay there or send someone to spend just one night. It should be off your list of hotels. They have not spent one cent on maintenance in many many years.

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks frequently as there is such a range of activities: museums, historic buildings, beaches, port, food, food, food!
We like how the buses, metro and trains match the timings listed on Google Maps, and how easy it is to purchase tickets by card via the ATM Genova app.
The aquarium and the area around the Porto Antico is a must as there is always something going on, like street performers.

Genoa was a nice looking city.
Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.
What a beautiful property! Rooms are spacious, bright and airy with lovely views across town from the many huge windows. Chiara, the host, was very welcoming and friendly and allowed an earlier check-in than stated on the booking. Extremely well located, in walking distance to all attractions, shops and cafes and the port. Rooms were spotlessly clean, well appointed and comfortable. The traditional decor made me feel like I was a local in proper Italy. Would highly recommend!
The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.
Lovely studio with loft bedroom in a great walkable location from the old city. Bathroom and main room was nicely decorated and amenitized. We enjoyed our stay here. The beds in Italy were very hard for our liking (we are U.S. citizens), and this was the hardest. But I would recommend this great little place to anyone staying in Genoa. Had a small kitchen in the unit, and laundry facilities in the lobby.
We got upgraded to the Grand Hotel Savoia just next door. Since I mentioned the trip was to celebrate my mom's birthday, the room was courteously arranged with a bottle of prosecco! The staff was very polite, attentive and helpful. The quality and selection of the breakfast buffet was just insane! Very good location too -). A wonderful stay that made my mom very happy!
The apartments are in a lovely part of Genoa very close to the beach. They are spacious and well suited for accommodating larger groups. The Wonderful Italy team representative, Matteo, who managed our stay was very accommodating and helpful, going above and beyond to help resolve some unexpected issues that arose during our stay. Overall it was comfortable.
The apartment is spacious and comfortable. It has 1 bathroom with a great shower :-)
It is located in what seems to be the business district of Genova, very close to the old town.
The beds were the most comfortable we had during our stay in Italy (6 hotels).
The staff was very nice and even made an effort to let us check in earlier than usual.
One of the best stays we’ve ever had. Hotel has history and soul. The staff is very helpful. Very clean rooms, very good breakfast. Right in the historic center.
There is no car park, you have to park your car outside of the historic center(Italy standard). Around 21 euro/day if you choose hotel’s suggestion to park your car.
The location in Nervi is superb - right in front of the train station (a great way to get around in this part of Italy) with views of the Mediterranean. The hotel is spotlessly clean and all staff are bright and friendly.
Amazing location to stay when you travel through Italy by train. Just few steps from the entrance/ exit from Genova Piazza Principe train station. Highly recommended and I will stay there again when I'm back in Genova.
- Quality and size of the rooms is really good
- proper breakfast (for italy)
- beautiful hotel and nicely decoratef
- located in a nice neighborhood (very important for Genua!! Dont stay close to the Aquarium!!)
Beautiful hotel, well situated for exploring Genoa. Very helpful and friendly staff. Restaurant was lovely, delicious food, great breakfast. A little bit of luxury to start our holiday in Italy, would recommend.
The hotel was beautiful and the room very comfortable. We also visited the spa, which was a wonderful end to our stay in Italy! Since we arrived and left by train, the location was very convenient.
Hotel Continental Genova was under reconstruction. We were accommodated in Grand Hotel Savoia. Everything was perfect. Amazing hotel, great service.
Thank you very much!
really modern hotel with spacious bathroom, nice break from all the traditional rooms in Italy. good location with easy walk to lots of restaurants and city centre
It's the second time I'm saying at this Hotel and I love it! It's perfect location, clean, stylish, beautiful, great service, deliscious breakfast and great beds!
It is one of the best options in Genova - a decent 4* hotel with parking at 8 euros/day ; very few and ugly accomodations available in the city at enormous prices
