Essaouira has developed from a hippie hangout to become a top Morocco beach resort with good surfing conditions. Its 18th-century medina is almost European in feel and narrow streets lead under low arches past fragrant spice stalls and local artisans selling everything from wood carvings to faience pottery.
Dotted around the souk are many traditional-style riads on Booking.com, hidden behind tiled façades and blue doors. Other Essaouira accommodation options include luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap apartments, and B&Bs near Essaouira Airport.
Also bright blue are the rowing boats bobbing gently in small harbours sheltered by the Scala of the Port, a wide walkway with ramparts through which several historic cannons poke out. At the end is the Citadel, a small fortress overlooking Mogador Island - the largest of the Iles Purpuraires, so-called for the purple shells found in their rocks that were once used to produce dyes for Roman senator togas.
Another fortress – Bordj El Berod – lies in pieces on the long, sandy beach south of the marina. In the opposite direction the coastline is more rocky and lined by the Scala of the Kasbah, the crenellated walls protecting the medina. Horseriding and camel safaris are available on the beach and you can also visit a Berber village inland.
Impressive fort! The Atlantic brings a fresh brise and a lot of problems for the buildings because humidity. It’s impressive to watch the ocean breaks at the city wall and sunset over the blue fisher boats. The Souk is small but fine and not so over crowded like Marrakech but not easy to get good prices because you don’t have many options like in other souks. But it’s a unique place impressive too!

Good place with a chilled-out vibe.
Good place with a chilled-out vibe. Great for those who are into surfing or wind sports. Also a cool place for those who like to try local food, shop at markets, or just meander through the narrow streets of a historic and vibrant town.
Accommodation is affordable, food is tasty, and the people are friendly. Also lots of activities such as surfing and camel/horse riding.
Easy to reach other towns and cities from the bus station.

There were lots of things I liked about Essaouira.
There were lots of things I liked about Essaouira. It is a coastal seaport with fresh fish brought in daily, so eating fish/seafood was a real delight. The town itself has many sections of medina/suq where all sorts of shopping opportunities, or just gazing around can be had. I did a cookery course which I enjoyed and found very informative, we learned to make a meat tagine, also a lentil dish, and had a visit to the spice market. I went with another hotel guest to a hammam which was a first for me. I enjoyed it all, thought it was perhaps a bit commercial, and disappointed a day or two later to discover I had acquired headlice. I have heard of this happening to others, so whilst dismayed to be in that state, I recognise that it is fairly common. No I would not go to a hammam again. The hassle of getting lice free outweighed for me the enjoyment. I do ,however, recommend the cookery course.

Essauira is a very charming town, with a completely different atmosphere than the busy Marrakesh.
The old town has a lot of personality, with it's white buildings which mix Moroccan and European style.
Plenty of good restaurants and places for eating, especially for fish and seafood.
The prices of pretty much everything are significantly better than in Marrakesh and the sellers are more laid-back so it´s a good place for shopping some souvenirs more quietly.
The main beach is very nice and it has good sports infrastructure on the promenade.
There are also some nice places for listening to live music and in general the whole town has a very artsy and chill vibe.
The personal was very helpful and did everything for us. The hotel and room beautiful, great location and the terrace great with magnificent view over the beach. Leila was especially helpful. When we arrived two people in our group were sick and we were a bit chaotic but she helped us arrange for a doctor and the medication. The day of checking out the grandmother in our group was also sick and she could stay longer in her room with no additional cost until she was prepared to travel. We are thankful and can really recommend this hotel.
The owners of the Riad Nadia and Thierry are just amazing people. We had the best time in their beautiful hotel and felt exceptionally well cared for by them and their staff. Any questions or interests we had were immediately tended to and it was clear that their main interest is making the guests feel happy and comfortable.
The terrace up top is absolutely beautiful and every morning a gorgeous breakfast is served with fresh tea or coffee and eggs on pancakes, as well as fresh fruits and more. We would definitely come back!
I visited with my children and we were received by Hussein and his other colleague. We enjoyed staying in Dar Halima. The room was very clean. Beddings were neat and super clean. The people in charge were efficient and welcoming. Our breakfast was served on time each day. We mostly liked the location since it is close to the beach and a walking distance to the city center. I recommend the facility to any one looking to visit Essaouira.
Exquisitely beautiful hotel in a quiet neighborhood, ideal for those (like us) who like being a two minute walk from the far less crowded part of the beach. We simply loved our 20 minute walks north along the shore on the "boardwalk" to the ancient city center (Medina & Kasbah.) Breakfasts are great and Xavier even offered (without us asking) and made us breakfasts-to-go for our 5 a.m. departure on Day 3. Loved our pool time here.
I've stayed in more than 10 different riads/hotels in Essaouira and this is easily one of the best. It's very easy to get to and its close to everything, but not in the middle of the medina chaos. The lobby & restaurant are very chic, and the rooms are nice as well. The shower was very cute and the water was super hot. The room gets dark enough to sleep in, but also bright enough for make-up with or without the over head light.
One the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The people are very kind and welcoming. Beds are 10/10 with blackout covers and very comfortable. 2 very beautiful rooftops, very large comon space, music room, and kitchen with everything you need. 2 mins walk from the beach, stores, resturants.
I stayed during Ramadan where they organized an Iftar buffet for the guests and had some the best, most authentic homecooked Moroccan food.
An incredible stay in Essaouira! Everything was amazing about the hotel. It's a beautifully remodeled historical building right inside the Medina. The roof, pool, and lobby were all gorgeous and so welcoming. Breakfast was delicious. The room was a great size so comfortable. The staff was really the best! They all went above and beyond to make sure our stay was so memorable and perfect. We would recommend to anyone visiting!
Premium Deluxe room was first class. ALL the staff were 100% professional and likeable. The hotel manager was excellent and attentive. He made sure he talked to us each day. We were in the hotel when the Earthquake happened (8th Sept 2023), and we were looked after and informed as much as possible. The hotel staff were caring even though they were worried about their own families, in Essaouira and in the Atlas Mountains.
This riad is located close to everything in the Medina and the mosque, so you will hear all the prayers, but it's not a big deal. We could walk to everything. Breakfast was delicious and plenty. The Baghrir was the best we had in our entire trip. About 15mins walk to the beach and to anything else in the area.
Staff doesn't speak much English but we managed via google translate and hand gestures.
The apartment so clear and relaxing
Good location
Quiet place and near the beach
Everything is cool about the apartment
We recommend it to anyone who want relax and enjoy Essaouira in good conditions
Breakfast was really good; staff was very helpful, friendly and professional. We were able to book a driver back to Marrakech with the hotel. They were very responsive and helpful. The rooms were pretty.
The hotel is well situated to ramble around the old medina. Very quiet. Great rooftop view. The breakfast was one of the best we had in our 17 day trip through Morocco.
* The location of the Hotel, too close to the medina and in front of the beach
* The porter Mohamed was very nice and helpful, he took care of my car all the time
