A very special island off the coast of New England.
A very special island off the coast of New England. More than 60% is land trust and the rest is super expensive beautiful 19th century homes. There is plenty to do such as swimming, surfing, hiking, and biking. The shoulder season i.e. May, June, September, and October is magnificent and a good value. There are nice B&Bs in historic houses as well as hotels. There is a nice variety of excellent restaurants. A good candidate for your bucket list.

Nantucket is a great place to spend a day or a week.
Nantucket is a great place to spend a day or a week. There are many great places to dine or have a drink. We didn't go to the beach this time but we have in the past and they're beautiful. If you're on a tight budget you may want to find another option or just go for the day.

This was our first trip to Nantucket (even though I'm from New England!). We explored the island by bike. There are dedicated bike paths but not everywhere so you do end up riding on the tar road. Island traffic seems to be used to bikers, though; they even stop for you when they don't have to according to traffic laws: better safe than sorry but a bit annoying for experienced street bikers (we live in the Netherlands). Beware of biking routes (via Google) that send you via Main Street — this is full of old-fashioned cobblestones that cannot be ridden with a bike!
Being an island, many restaurants are quite expensive, but not all of them are worth the money. We particularly enjoyed the Nantucket Tap Room and Ventuno. or, The Whale is popular but the tin ceiling plus music plus limited menu with no subs is frustrating... and breakfast places that offer 'standard' fare are hard to find. There's a surprisingly large Stop 'n Shop in the harbor as well as on the other side of town.
We stayed Mon-Fri, which was enough time to see the entire island by bike. We biked to the Cisco Brewery but the tour is $20pp so that explains why some bikers have to be picked up instead of biking back to the harbor!

We took the "slow ferry", no car.
We took the "slow ferry", no car. We booked a van tour with Gail's Tours for the first afternoon. She hit the highlights of her island, providing an entertaining narrative of the island's history and inhabitants. We found plenty of things to do and see within walking distance of our hotel. The Whaling Museum was a recommended stop that I'm glad we saw. Just walking through the village was wonderful. So much history! One day we took the bus to Sconset, did the Bluff Walk, and took a walking tour with Rick through the village of historic homes. If we were here longer than our 3 days we would have liked to explore more of the island outside the main town. It was recommended to get dinner reservations, which we neglected to do. So, after the first day, we booked dinners for the rest of the trip. We ate at the Tap Room (sea bass was excellent!), the Sea Grille (blackened tuna was terrific) and Brotherhood of Thieves (clam chowder--best we've had!) We traveled in the shoulder season and avoided the crowds, but missed out on the places that weren't open yet. We traveled pre-Memorial Day, the weather was on the cool and windy side, so we never got to the beaches. Next time!

Beautiful places in the world! It’s history is so important,
so authentic , a slice of Americana at its best! The
importance of how it’s been properly restored to communicate a very worthwhile period of history.
What the life of a whaling family was and its contribution to American life-can be seen, as well as its arts and cultural aspect.
There is quite simply, no place quite like Nantucket.
Breakfast was spectacular both mornings of our stay . And.. they were kind about making slight changes to the offerings. Great coffee, wonderful evening sweets, and the sheets ( FRETTE ) were a dream come true. We had great control of light , and while there is a little traffic noise .. you must remember you are in the middle of Nantucket in high season! We'd go back .. loved the entire staff who helped us get prized reservations - and our lovely room. No detail is overlooked at Union Street. Stay there .. you won't be dissapointed.
This house is amazing. Big and beautiful. This was a mini honeymoon for us and it was perfect. The house is perfect. Clean and stocked with essentials. The upstairs shower was amazing. The bedroom with balcony overlooking the ocean was like nothing I have ever experienced. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing was amazing. we enjoyed walks along the beach and even saw a seal! I would definitely love to return to this property. Nantucket is beautiful
Our last minute stay in Nantucket was wonderful. Our innkeeper made check in super easy and accessible. We were greeted with fresh homemade cookies and everything we would need in a kitchen style area. The room was clean, quiet and the bed was super comfortable. The location is key here. An 8 minute walk from the ferry and is walkable to everything. We would stay here again. You can't beat the off season price.
The staff was exceptionally friendly. We were able to store our luggage at the hotel while we walked around Nantucket and waiting to check in. We were also able to get breakfast at the hotel while waiting to check in. They were also able to check us in earlier than the 4 o’clock check-in time. The rooms were clean. I do a lot of traveling and I have to say this is one of the best stays I’ve had.
The White Elephant Residences is located walking distance to almost every great restaurant in Nantucket and is situated in the heart of the city. The service is impeccable and everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay special - especially the manager Alice, who is always thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable of the area. This includes Brandon Grill - great Sunday brunch!
The hotel is in the middle of the island, which makes it a good starting location for biking tours. There is a great shuttle service to Nantucket. The hotel is close to the airport, but one did not hear all that much. The staff is very competent, friendly and helpful.
By far the welcome and support from Gail at the Periwinkle Inn was unmatched to any other place I have ever stayed at,
. She is kind informative and has an uncanny knowing for how much to talk to each client.
Great location, very central
Beautiful rooms and four post beds with old wooden floors - very historical feel
Staff very helpful
Hotel courtesy car for restaurants etc over a mile away is an excellent touch
Beautiful updated, modern and comfortable boutique hotel. Pretty outdoor terrace to enjoy complimentary breakfast and an evening cocktail. Complimentary beach chairs with coolers and umbrellas for the beach!
This house is quintessential Nantucket, cosy, quaint and nautical inspired, with an amazing attention to details. The room is small but perfect, super super clean and comfortable. I loved every bit of it.
the property was very small. but, this was an extreme situation as our original hotel burned down the week before our stay. the hotel group was able to find us alternate accommodations.
beautiful! comfortable, location. the coffee and breakfast was top quality. the robes were amazing and we all wanted to buy one but they weren’t for sale.
