Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.

Naples is a great place if you like looking a churches and eating Pizza! Seriously there are plenty of things to see. we did a day in Pompeii, which is a easy journey by train. Public transport is easy to use, but Italians speak too fast, so it is easier to work out what to do yourself.

Naples is what I call a very gritty city - such a buzz, chaotic traffic, graffiti everywhere. We stayed in the Centro Historico and also on the seafront hotel Excelsior (which was wonderful). Lovely people, not too many tourists, loads of super shops and interesting places to see, not too expensive, restaurants and pizza and trattorias everywhere. Good taxis with meters. It really grows on you and we loved it.

Naples is a crazy, dirty, fantastic experience, there's no where else like it in Europe, the only place I've been to more crazy is New Delhi. You must go at least once in your life. The food is fantastic, there's so much life, just go to an old area, like "Corpo di Napoli" and watch the world go by, it's totally mental.

The people are great but the traffic is surprising as is the cleanliness of the city. Mostly the food is very good. I had one bad experience where I was given an overpriced salad with tomatoes that were so hard I couldn't cut them! I will check reviews for future restaurants.
It's easy to walk around but not with a pull along suitcase as the roads are mostly cobbled.
Mostly I would insist on the friendliness of the people. I was traveling alone, so as a woman I can sometimes feel a bit vulnerable. But everyone made me feel safe!

A shabby looking, dirty but charming town with yummy food.
A shabby looking, dirty but charming town with yummy food. Clearly not for everyone. A good base to explore attractions in the surrounding area (Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mt. Vesuvius, the islands, the town of Sorrento and the Amalfi coast).

Naples fulfilled all our expectations.
Naples fulfilled all our expectations. The city is wild, chaotic and noisy, dirty, but just like that it is interesting. It is full of historical sights. I would like to visit it again, but I would rather stay in Pompeii, so I drove there every day.
The property was truly outstanding! Nestled right in the heart of the city next to the magnificent Duomo, the building itself exuded Italy's captivating ancient architecture. Inside, the apartment was a perfect blend of classic beauty and modern convenience. Our host was incredibly humble and gracious, going above and beyond to assist us with recommendations for nearby attractions and suggesting some exceptional places to visit. I would wholeheartedly recommend this gem to anyone traveling to Naples. It was a memorable experience
This was my favorite property on my 10-days visit in Italy, too bad I only visited Naples for a day.
It didn't disappoint as I already knew I was gonna like the property itself because of location, facade and the upper terrace. Everything is photographed as expected. But what's magical about it was the overall experience provided by the hosts (Nico and Anna) and their angel, Patrizia. I got the opportunity to be welcomed well, the Napoli way ❤️
I'll come back next year and will definitely stay in touch with them.
The breakfast spread was amazing! We were served so many different kinds of pastries, cold cut meats, jams, Nutella, smoked cheese, juices for kids, espresso for me. The room was beautiful with a great view! Location was at the center of many attractions, metro stations, shopping, supermarkets. The owner was super nice and very helpful giving us great advice of places to eat, events happening nearby, popular sites, etc! We visited Italy for 3 weeks and this was probably our favorite hotel that we stayed at!
We spent 2 nights in Il Tesoro and we have to admit that it was the best hotel we stayed at in Italy. It was clean, well-equipped, very beautiful and stylish! We could choose what to eat for breakfast and it was served in the room in the morning. The hotel is absolutely well located, close to the city center. The stuff is amazing, Lorenzo and Massimo was very helpful and nice. If you are looking for the best place to stay in Naples, do not hesitate, just book a room here!
I recently had a short stay at Hotel des Artistes in Naples, Italy, and it was truly a pleasure experience. The hotel is located in a charming and lively neighborhood with easy access to many restaurants, and shops. The best part of our stay was the welcoming staff. The staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and they went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
The building was dated and the lift add to its charm.
I loved my stay at Napoli Cityscape! Vanna and Antonio were some of the nicest people we met in all of Italy and they were so great at communicating and making sure we were comfortable. I love that we got breakfast vouchers for every morning at a nearby cafe - I think I even preferred that to a hotel-served breakfast! The room was spacious and stylish, the amenities were great, and the mini-fridge was perfect for storing all our takeaway pizza.
Location was perfect as close to the port, historical area. We walked to Naples Architectural Museum from here too (15 minutes). Only a 15 minute walk to Garibaldi train station (trains to all over Italy). We Picked Up the Sorrento train to take us to Pompeii.
Staff were super helpful with any questions we had or any requests. Breakfast was at a local cafe opposite the apartment building. Lovely room,
Recently refurbished and very quiet.
It is a very good location, close to the central station and close to delicious restaurants. And it was the cleanest accommodation during my trip to Italy. The breakfast served in the morning so I can eat comfortably in my room. The staff was also very kind. Thanks to the staff here, Naples is better to me. I definitely want to come back to Naples, and if I come again, I want to stay at this hotel.
Great location next to the central train station for further travelling by train (e.g. to Paestum), easily accesible by bus from the airport, nice staff, surprisingly rich and very good breakfast offering not only Italian sweet pastries but also some "salty" options (which is not typical for this type of hotel in Italy so the breakfast exceeded my expectations). Restaurants nearby.
Great location And Friendly owner :). He’s’ one of the best in Italy so far. The location is perfect as you have access to some of the Naples’ most historical area, streets and a easy access to public transportation. The room was comfy and cozy but equally large enough to fit my group of 4 adults. It’s a solid place of you’re looking for a place to stay in Naples.
I loved the bathtub, shower, and size of our room. The bathtub had hot water, and we found most places in Italy with a tub only had luke warm water for the bath. Our air was comfortable all night. Most places in Italy, the air was regulated at night and we got hot. This was the most comfortable place we stayed other than the Nicholas Hotel in Bari.
The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the amenities were great! I was very pleased with the room. Truly was the best shower we were able to take while staying across Italy for 2 weeks! We really enjoyed our stay with this hotel and appreciated the privacy provided by the enclosed entrance and hotel.
beautiful hotel, the best of all our stays in Italy. lovely sized rooms, exceptionally clean and tidy every where. helpful welcoming staff. good breakfast. great location for travel , right next to busy train station, yet our room was so quiet (thanks to brilliant double glazing)
The garden terrace in the middle of the city was wonderfully calming. The beds were the most comfortable in all the hotels in a 3 week trip in Italy. Cira was a gracious hostess and very welcoming. It was a short walk from the Duomo Metro stop.
Maison Arena is a great introduction to Naples, Italy 🇮🇹 I felt as if the hotel was in the heart of the city. Incredibly caring staff and incredible service. Breakfast was a great bonus. Will definitely recommend to all my friends and family.
Amazing lobby and rooms with cool Italian style. Good location close to everything. Host lovely and gave good recommendations for food and activities. Comfy bed and pillows. Felt like a 5 star hotel. Best accomodation we had in Italy
Super neat and clean rooms . Well equipped. Near the Naples central station . One of the best rooms my family have stayed in this trip to Italy.
Will definitely stay there again
Everything was perfect. Salvatore was really helpfull, gave us a lot of usefull tips. Best breakfast we've had in italy and the location is right in the heart of Naples.
things we loved about this hotel is its location and excellent breakfast ! their chef s name is Sophia - perhaps greatest chef in Italy!! she bakes the best pastry!
