Set at the south-western tip of Y-shaped Lake Como, the town of Como offers wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A funicular railway runs up to the village of Brunate from where you can see Switzerland on the opposite shore.
The peaceful location has long been a favourite with celebrities, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next door Broletto dates to the previous century, and even older are the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello, sitting on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style is the Casa del Fascio, built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighbouring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury lakefront hotels, town centre B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, which offers direct services to Milan.
Como is a nice place with plenty to for a short break.
Como is a nice place with plenty to for a short break. Nice sightseeing and plenty of shops and squares to wander around.
The main church is beautiful.

Lake Como was wonderful.
Lake Como was wonderful. Though we had rain for the three days we stayed, it was still lovely, and will return again, and stay at the
B&B Al Molo, Sant’Agostino. The owner, Stefano, was just wonderful.

Como city itself can be visited in a day, after that the best is to take the bus and visit the cities around the lake like Mennagio - from there, take the ferry (7€/person total) and go visit Bellagio and Varenna.
You can visit villas; such as Carlotta (just before Mennagio) or Olmo (in Como).
In total, a trip between 2 and 3 days (max) is perfect.

Beautiful scenery.
Beautiful scenery. Recommend taking a trip on the fernicular for the views and a meal / drinks in the Locanda Milano hotel while up there.
Plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from in the city. The eateries with a view of the Cathederal are obviously more expensive than others further afield but not necessarily any better fare.
I was expecting it to be eye wateringly expensive but was pleasantly surprised that it was comparable to London / Brighton prices.
Advise picking up a street map from tourist info as the narrow streets can look very similar!

Stunning location, recommend you get up early to get the first boat to other towns on the lake. You have no queues, similarly with the funicular. We got an early car up to Brunate. Came down at 1pm and the queue to go up stretched onto the street.
Easy to get to from Milan (1 hr train)

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with this accommodation. A few minutes before our arrival we received a call from Cascina Mirandola that there were no more rooms available for us. They had selected another hotel for us. There was no explanation or apology for this situation. The other hotel was very far away so we asked for another suggestion. We were assured that we would pay the same price as contractually agreed in the booking. As it was already evening, we drove to the suggested accommodation and stayed there overnight. The next morning we had to pay a much higher price for this overnight stay. The owner phoned Cascina Mirandola to clarify how to proceed. Casicina Mirandola promised to transfer the difference to us. After very slow communication by phone and email, we are still waiting for our money and an apology. Our calls are no longer answered. We feel cheated and cannot recommend Cascina Mirandola under any circumstances.
Location, set back but very near the Lake in a great little Square of shops and Hotels.
It is also very convenient for the train station with buses.
The Breakfast choice was excellent and the staff were respectful.
The sheets on the Bed were very very clean and good quality.
I used this Hotel upon arrival in Como before going up the Lake for a 10 day stay and again on my return. It was a great stopover that made my journey pleasant and convenient.
Thank you to all the Staff
This place was a wonderful surprise and far exceeded our expectations. The owner has thought of every detail...even a Wine bottle cooler, coffee machine with coffee provided and the water to fill it. Super comfy bed. Great rooftop area with awesome view. Communal kitchen, Hot tub on the roof. Far better service than the 5 star hotel we came from! Cute/Campy/Comfy, and a great location on Como for boats, ferries and the train.
If you want to stay in a decent hotel with an affordable price around Lake Como, this is your place! If you are travelling with a car, I certainly recommend this hotel, since it offers free parking, which is not a common thing in Italy. The employees are super friendly and sincere. They prepared the room quite fast, given the fact that i wrote to them we would like to check-in a bit earlier then usual.
the entire stay was very comfortable and pleasant in a well furnished and decorated apartment. the view of Lake Como is spectacular! an outside seating area allows for both sun or shade and an incredible view. easy access to the lake community on a ferry is delightful and efficient. local restaurants, supermarket and pharmacy easy access. best host and staff we encountered on a six week Italy trip.
Breakfast was delicious, and the very remote location and rustic vibe with dogs and horses walking around freely was very soothing.
Staff was very nice.
Fairly close to Lake Como and the surrounding cities and great hiking options. But you will need a small car or a bike to get around. Even just to get up to the hotel since the way up there is a very narrow, very steep and bumpy road.
Everything is very clean especially the towels are better than some five stars hotels. Bathroom is the best and spacious.
I feel safe like home because in the fence and very private location.
Rossana is very kind and responsible.
location is very closed to Como Lago train station and some attractions in town and lake . Very convenient. Also have parking in center of city .
There was nothing to dislike. The location has to be the B&B’s biggest asset but the room was also perfect. Loved having the little balcony which we could stand at on a morning/evening & look at the Lake. Stefano & his wife were so welcoming & hospitable, they really care about your stay & your time in Como. I would choose staying here again over a hotel any day!
We stayed one night whilst driving in the Lake Como area and we were extremely satisfied with this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful, the cleanliness of the premises and the room was immaculate. I think the most impressive bit about the rooms are the bathrooms. It was one of the highlights ot the trip and we will definitely be back.
The photos do not do the hotel justice. The rooms are very well appointed and the location in Como center is great. We had a lakeview balcony. The breakfast was rich and plentiful. The staff was very friendly, efficient and happy to help - shout out to Matteo! The drinks are fairly priced.
This was the first time we felt like we were home, during our 3 weeks of travelling around Italy. The owners were so lovely and helpful. The unit was exceptional, so clean and modern. It was right across the road from the lake and walking distance to everything. My favourite place!
Tge location is ideal. I booked this hotel specifically because it is right across the street from the Teatro Sociale and I went to a performance there. Additionally, it was convenient to walk around Como and go to the market. I felt very safe as a single woman traveller.
The Hotel is an authentic building in the middle of the town. It is nice and located by the main square of Como with a lovely teras where you can have food and coffee. And you can reach the corso of the lake in a few seconds by walk.
The hotel is located right next Lake Como and we were allocated a lake-view room which was bright and roomy. The breakfasts were also excellent with a wide variety of offerings. It was nice to see a senior as the breakfast maitre
The hotel is located at the center and very close to local bus stop (1 min, just around the corner), walking distance to Como San Giovanni train station
Hotel room was very clean
Staff is helpful and very good people
Worth money
Gaby Lakes Suites was a perfect location for our stay in Lake Como- beautiful view of the lake from our room. Close to everything. Highly recommend this hotel and would definately stay there again!
Hotel and staff were wonderful, breakfast was excellent so much choice. Rooftop bar and pool were great and distance to Lake Como was about 15 minute easy walk. A great place to stay. ❤️🇮🇹
The hotel was in a excellent location overlooking Lake Como. It is also just next to the furnicular stop to Brunate. Breakfast was simple yet fairly good with very attentive staff.
